The Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2011-2012 campaign shoot was a complex and carefully coordinated operation involving not only six young, up-and-coming models, five vintage cars and their chauffeur, but also seven pairs of pedigree dogs.

"Steven Meisel and I met and decided we would do this wonderful story of beautiful vintage cars, little dogs and fresh-faced young women. It's a very classic scenario, and of course it suggests travel, but I think we gave it a fresh, modern and sometimes a little bit naughty, tongue-in-cheek spin." Tommy Dunn is enlisted for the new H&M WaterAid collection campaign. To support the international organization that helps provide access to clean water, while also improving sanitation in several of the world’s impoverished communities, H&M will be donating 25% of the sales price from the WaterAid collection towards the cause. Launched on May 26, 2011, the collection features a lineup of beachwear essentials and accessories, dressed in blue hues for men, women and children.

The collection has nice basics though: a biker boot, loafer, monk strap, sneaker, etc. I was looking for atleast one standout shoe amongst the line. But then again, when I think about what Jimmy Choo women's shoes are classically known for, it's top-notch craftsmanship and extreme comfort (even if they're 6 inch stilettos). So maybe the men's shoes will stick with that same blueprint for now and creatively branch out later.

Victoria Beckham Designs a Shirt to Benefit Japan

Lady Gaga and Victoria Beckham are among the A-List celebrities who are designing t-shirts to raise money for the relief effort in Japan. Vogue Japan and GQ Japan announced yesterday that they have teamed up to support the “Save Japan! Project” in order to promote the t-shirt sales, which will benefit the Japanese Red Cross.

From a Save Japan! Project rep. translated from Japanese:“The long road to recovery is now; we’re creating opportunities for new visions and values to be put to work. Fashion is working together, the creativity and the design industry peers have teamed up to build a charity that is inclusive.”

The t-shirts are being designed under the theme “Fashion Unites for Japan” and will be sold on a global scale. In addition to Lady Gaga and Victoria Beckham, celebrities who will be designing t-shirts include Karl Lagerfeld, Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Alber Elbaz, Charlize Theron, Orlando Bloom, Cyndi Lauper and Blake Lively.

The t-shirts will be sold in 11 countries at UNIQLO stores in Japan, United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.

Balmain to launch more affordable line

Looks as if new creative head Olivier Rousteing was only the beginning of a series of big changes at the French fashion house.
Thanks to a new licensing deal with Italian company Ittierre, a more accessibly priced ready-to-wear range is in the works.
The new line will consist of both men’s and women’s clothes under the name of Pierre Balmain, and while it will be produced by a separate design team, the creations will have to be approved by Rousteing.

The brothers behind Canadian fashion label Dsquared2 have unveiled a fashion project of a rather different kind, dressing up a Mini Cooper S in aid of charity.

Dean and Dan Caten, familiar fixtures on the global fashion circuit, unveiled the exclusive Life Ball Mini 2011 in Vienna, the latest in a series of designers to have added their touch to the iconic car.

The twins’ model has been “armed for adventures of all kinds,” with a large front guard, rally-style headlamps and a spare tire mounted to the tailgate.

The Most Expensive Photograph Ever Sold

Cindy Sherman's photograph "Untitled #96" has become the most expensive photograph ever sold after being auctioned off by Christie's in New York for $3.89 million. The image, which is one in a series of 10, was originally commissioned back in 1981 by Artforum magazine, but didn't make the final cut. The photograph features Sherman lying on a linleum floor clutching a personal ad, acting as a 30-something single woman in dismay.

Johnny Depp Owns Enough Hats to Fill Two Rooms

We knew Johnny Depp loved hats. In fact, he's even been honored for his devotion to his toppers. But we underestimated the scale of his collection. Johnny apparently has two full rooms in his Paris apartment devoted to his favorite accessory.

The collection has gotten so large, that longtime girlfriend Vanessa Paradis has had enough. She's reportedly told the fedora-loving star he has to get rid of them. What would Johnny be without his hats? Hopefully he doesn't decide to keep his collection and get rid of his girlfriend!

Hermès Custom Vans Slip-Ons

 

What’s a guy to do when his favorite sneaker company won’t collaborate with his favorite fashion house??? Well, Robert Verdi took the collaboration into his own hands by kindly requesting that Vans make him a few pairs of custom kicks out of his vintage Hermès scarf collection for his personal use. We have to admit, the end result was brilliant! This marriage between upscale prints and rubber street soles make the collaboration seem like a typical case of the old saying, ‘opposites attract.’ On the contrary, the union of Hermès and Vans make more sense than what meets the eye, by the use of the two distinctive materials that represent each company. Since 1937 Hermès has been designing their classic silk scarves, which elevated the company to an iconic status. Equally so, it was 1966 when Paul Van Doren sold his first pair of Vans on the streets of Anaheim California, with the same rubber sole we see today. The rubber of the shoes, and the silk of the scarves, are the two materials in which society identifies these brands to be. Though Hermes and Vans are from opposite worlds, they both found their identity, and stayed true to it!

Christian Louboutin continues to roll out more variations of his edgy Rollerboy Spikes shoe design for Fall 2011. This time, the shoe takes a turn towards the ostentatious (as if the spikes weren’t enough), with a gold studded and leopard-print upper. The upper is crafter from pony hair, with red accents around the ankle as the finishing touch. They are now available through the Louboutin website.
