Joan Smalls and Saskia de Brauw for CHANEL Spring/Summer 2012 Ad Campaign | Styled by Carine Roitfeld

When Carine Roitfeld left Paris Vogue, it was like we were free-falling in a cold, black abyss. To imagine this land without Carine at the helm of the Fashion Bible was like staring into a black crystal ball—or the eyes of Death. Was there to be no more Carine Street Style at the Paris shows? No more Carine-styled covers or editorials to rub against our cheeks? It was a whole new world, and one we didn't think we wanted to live in.

But we shouldn't have feared. Paris Vogue didn't make Carine Roitfeld, and it couldn't unmake her. After spending a ridiculously short time collecting herself and switching gears, the former editrix jumped right back into it. She started styling up a storm for V, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy; she started modeling for Barney's, W, and i-D; she even announced that she was developing her own quarterly fashion magazine. And now, she's been hired by Karl Lagerfeld to style a second Chanel campaign. Carine Roitfeld is nothing if not in our faces.

Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.” - Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld photographed this Fendi Fall/Winter 2011 2012 ad campaign and I hold him entirely responsible for stripping Anja Rubik of her personality and uniqueness, thus transforming her in one of his clones.

It is no surprise that Karl Lagerfeld turned to current muse Baptiste Giabiconi to front his latest lookbook. Toting a collection fit for a formal fall season, Lagerfeld embraces a somber color palette of gray and black for a lineup of luxe staples, accented with fur and dressed in leather. Fitted and to the point, Lagerfeld’s autumn collection leaves no room for hesistation, mapping out the ideal guide to a contemporary rendezvous with the sophisticated style of the kaiser.

Victoria Beckham Designs a Shirt to Benefit Japan

Lady Gaga and Victoria Beckham are among the A-List celebrities who are designing t-shirts to raise money for the relief effort in Japan. Vogue Japan and GQ Japan announced yesterday that they have teamed up to support the “Save Japan! Project” in order to promote the t-shirt sales, which will benefit the Japanese Red Cross.

From a Save Japan! Project rep. translated from Japanese:“The long road to recovery is now; we’re creating opportunities for new visions and values to be put to work. Fashion is working together, the creativity and the design industry peers have teamed up to build a charity that is inclusive.”

The t-shirts are being designed under the theme “Fashion Unites for Japan” and will be sold on a global scale. In addition to Lady Gaga and Victoria Beckham, celebrities who will be designing t-shirts include Karl Lagerfeld, Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Alber Elbaz, Charlize Theron, Orlando Bloom, Cyndi Lauper and Blake Lively.

The t-shirts will be sold in 11 countries at UNIQLO stores in Japan, United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.

Style Icon - Baptiste Giabiconi

Enough of his glittering career, style wise he is an inspirational figure. Of course with him being a model for Chanel he has accessibility to a vast range of clothes that most of us only wish we had access to. However you can dress just as well as Baptiste by spending a tenth of the value of the clothes he wears. The most important lesson we can learn from looking at his look book above is the sense of knowing what items will work TOGETHER, no matter what they may look like separately.

Accompanying the story, Interview finds out more about the model who inspires such great praises from Lagerfeld, “Giabiconi’s lean, athletic physique looks good in clothes—and even better out of them.”
