Recalling Carol Lim and Humberto Leon's
days of youth, the KENZO Resort Collection 2014 is an ode to their
home state of California. A bright and vitalized collection
incorporating elements from music, nature and art, we are invited to
wander nonchalantly through the relaxed and carefree life of a sun kissed, sunshine state citizen. Tailoring verges on the masculine by
playing with proportions and matching cropped, high waisted carrot
trousers and shorts with cropped jackets in graphic bi-color prints,
"wet feeling" cotton poplin's evoke scuba diving and painted Japanese
denim and spongy jersey demonstrate KENZO's affinity for fabric
development. Over sized dresses in chintzy cotton and garments in 3-D
honeycomb fabrics add structural volume. The collection is punctuated by
fresh, cool summer colors of bubblegum, cement grey, peach and and pool
blue and prints of hand painted palm trees and painters flowers.

Kenzo Fall 2012 Ready-To-Wear Womens Collection
CREATIVE DIRECTORS, KENZO Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, 36, the Creative Directors of Kenzo, have been artistic and business partners since 2002, the year they founded Opening Ceremony in New York City. Both born and raised in Los Angeles, Carol and Humberto share a friendship that goes back much further to when they met at the University of California, Berkeley in 1993. At Opening Ceremony, the highly successful fashion, retail and online environment they created together, the pair has consistently set the pace for innovative clothing, shopping, events, and collaborations. Their designs for the brand’s extensive clothing and accessories collections have been an integral part of its universe. Carol and Humberto consistently reach outside of existing paradigms and stray from the expected to bring fun and diversity to fashion. They are completely captivated by the spirit of Kenzo, which for them is a way of life. They are now infusing Kenzo with their expansive creative ideas to renew its youthful spirit and energy. Unexpected prints and patterns, vibrant color, music, and culture are hallmarks of the brand that will become relevant once again. Kenzo will attract women and men of all ages to be a part of its vibrant universe.
New artistic directors at Kenzo
LVMH on Tuesday announced the appointment of Humberto Leon and Carol Lim as artistic directors of the ready-to-wear label Kenzo with immediate effect.
They replace Sardinian designer Antonio Marras, who has held the post for eight years and who shows his own name label in Milan,
“After eight successful years, LVMH and Antonio Marras have decided to end their collaboration,” LVMH said in a statement, without giving details.
“Humberto Leon and Carol Lim will bring to Kenzo the freshness of their creative talent to give a new boost to this emblematic house.
I am sure they will succeed in positioning the brand on the road to an ambitious development,” Pierre-Yves Roussel, chief executive of the fashion division of LVMH, said.
The appointments follow the arrival in January of a new chief executive, Eric Marechalle, at the helm of Kenzo.
